Self Love
Doing Brave Work
How self love is different than self care—and why it’s the bravest love of all.
In the spirit of constantly growing, we acknowledge that we’ve been through a difficult year, as a whole. But as such, now is the time to fill our own cups, and make sure we are being fully present in the act of self love. We caught up with Jenny to share her thoughts on self love, and how doing this important work helps us all Here’s what she said.
Doing Brave Work
How self love is different than self care—and why it’s the bravest love of all.
Jenny and her daughter, Georgie Love, 2020.
“Self love is a personal evolution of the spiritual self that takes place over time, whereas self care practices provide enjoyment and nurturing in moments of time, helping us cope and treating our current physical and mental state. The impact of self care practices are temporary, whereas a holistic self love pursuit can be life-changing and long-lasting.
Self love includes self care practices that fill up your cup (like an outdoor walk, phone catch-up with a close friend or applying a face mask). But self love levels up on self care as it encompasses much deeper work. It requires connecting with your truest self. It is an intentional, intimate journey of self-exploration with the objective of full acceptance and affection towards oneself, so that you can make choices that are directed by your heart centre versus external expectations. You can shine as the universe intended, and be of greater service to the world. The rewards of self love are transformational.
“Self love involves checking in with your state of being and being honest. It’s about getting to know yourself without judging what you uncover. It also involves being conscious of how we talk to ourselves.”
Treat it with the same loving kindness that we bring to our dearest friends. We are physically captive to our own thoughts, so how we react to life and how we talk to ourselves is extraordinarily critical and influential in shaping our path. It can bring us to our knees or propel us to greatness. It can bring love into our lives or drive it away, and it can unveil our destined path to happiness or make us feel we are unworthy.

This is the bravest work you will do.
The first step is to turn inward.
To tune in.
To listen.
What do you hear?
As this journey unfolds, chances are, you will be seeing your whole self for the first time.
Love your soul and the story that has shaped it.
Open your heart to yourself with compassion, respect and loving kindness, and you will nurture yourself more deeply than any face mask can.”
