What makes jewelry waterproof?

Certain materials, like stainless steel and titanium, are naturally waterproof. But when it comes to gold and silver—our faves—the term "water-resistant" is more accurate. These precious materials are resistant to tarnishing and corrosion, but they stay in their best shape when they aren't routinely exposed to water. The better quality the gold, the more durable it is. That's why JENNY BIRD uses recycled 14k gold in our fine jewelry, and 14k-gold plating in our fashion jewelry. For silver pieces, we use sturdy platinum- or silver-plating.
